After weeks of rain and cold and mud, gardeners can get out and harvest their root vegetables ... and in a touching act of hopefulness ... get their spring bulbs in the ground.

Northlanders rejoiced when we hit an official high temperature of 47 degrees Wednesday.

Trouble is, that's supposed to be the average temperature for this time of year.

Dr. Andrew Thompson is really frustrated.

He knows flu shots aren't perfect; he knows they're only 40-60% effective and that makes them hard to promote.

But the alternative, he says, can be worse.


Only Larry Weber could see -20 temperatures as an aid to mindfulness and "being in the moment."
