Duluth Art Institute

Annie Dugan is in the hot seat herself this week, as we continue our Art Week theme with some questions about the art of being a curator at the Duluth Art Institute.

The photography of Kip Praslowicz

Annie Dugan of the Duluth Art Institute talks about events near and far, including the Duluth Art Institute's "The City As a Work of Art" bus tour on Wednesday, the exhibit of Kip Praslowicz photography at the Red Herring Lounge in Duluth, and Kathy McTavish's Mill City Requiem for Solo Instrument and Distance at the Mill City Museum as part of the Northern Spark event in Minneapolis.

The Duluth Art Institute welcomes a trio of exhibits with an opening on Thursday of this week:  Poetics of Evolution by Carolyn Halliday,  Cody Paulson's Port City Supply Co. and Found Horizons by Karen Owsley Nease.

May 5, 2015

This week on Radio Gallery we are joined by Cody Paulson, a minimalist photographer and graphic designer. Focusing on the history of Duluth, Paulson captures the remnants of human interaction with the environment, and believes that every object tells a story if you know how to listen. The show, Port City Supply Co., is up now through June 4 in the Corridor Gallery of the Duluth Art Institute. The reception is May 14 from 5-7pm.

Karen Owsley Nease

Today Radio Gallery shares the work of local painter Karen Owsley Nease opening a new show at the Duluth Art Institute called "Found Horizons."   This body of work is clean and uncomplicated at first glance but upon investigation reveals depth and complexities beyond your expectations.  You can hear more from the artist at her gallery talk happening the day the show opens, Thursday April 30 at 5:30 p.m. or  at the joint reception on May 14, 5-7 p.m.  But we are happy to share some inside perspective about the paintings of Karen Owsley Nease this week on Radio Gallery.

Annie Dugan issues an assignment to listeners: to read Linda Grover's "The Dance Boots" by the end of the month so you can take part in the Duluth Public Library/Duluth Art Institute's One Book, One Community events, including a book discussion and an exhibit of the pow-wow photographs of Ivy Vainio.  Annie Dugan is the curator of the Duluth Art Institute and she has the details:

A new show opens at the Duluth Art institute, "Natural Contract," showcasing two Duluth artists; Ryuta Nakajima and Aya Kawaguchi, with the reception happening Thursday, February 19, 5 - 7 p.m.
