Sustainability Week: waste not, want not

Some experts figure a third of all the food produced globally for human consumption goes to waste. Others say it's closer to 40 percent. And unlike some kinds of "extra" food at grocery stores or restaurants, you can't repurpose the muffin you only ook a bite out of and left on your plate. But with a little bit of humor and a light touch, UMD's Office of Sustainability is hoping to remind students whose eyes are bigger than their stomachs that they can always go back for seconds if they need them.

Husband and wife team Mike Monson and Kim Curtis-Monson have been performing as the Fish Heads for over 25 years, with other musicians taking part along the way, including current member Paul Jones on dobro, pedal steel, guitar, and banjo. Sustainability Week: cultural sustainability

"My time on the RV Falkor has been unbelievable so far. Amazing people, inspiring science, and breathtaking ocean as far as the eye can see. I am set up with a p ainting space in the wet-lab, surrounded by scientists, ocean mud, chemicals, and a wide array of colorful test tubes and equipment. It is an active place and the perfect space for creating direct paintings about this important ocean research. I have two paintings in the works right now and look forward to getting into many more...
