Radio Gallery speaks with artist and Tweed Museum of Art curator about Blood Memoirs: Exploring Individuality, Memory, and Culture through Portraiture. The event was curated by guest curator Amber-Dawn Bear Robe and will be on display until March 16, 2014.

Radio Gallery 10-15-2013: Joan Slack

Joan Slack, Curator at Tweed Museum of Art and professional artist in clay and fiber joins Radio Gallery to discuss Blood Memoirs: Exploring Individuality, Memory, and Culture through Portraiture.

The event was curated by guest curator Amber-Dawn Bear Robe . Her interest in Native American voice and women's point of view guided the platform of the exhibit. It represents a composite of self portraits, with focus on Native American artists, while also including non-Natives to provide a wide range of perspectives.

The exhibit is concerned with portraiture as a way of examining identity. Slack provides examples of various portraits that represent various identities, and the wide range of perspectives and explorations seen throughout Blood Memoirs.

Blood Memoirs: Exploring Individuality, Memory, and Culture through Portraiture is located at Tweed Museum of Art 1201 Ordean Court, University of Minnesota Duluth, Duluth, MN 5581 and will b on display until Mar 16, 2014
