MN Reads: "Women of Mayo Clinic: The Founding Generation" by Virginia Wright-Peterson

We don't think a lot about the people who founded the Mayo Clinic in Rochester; if we think about it at all, it's in a context of - perhaps literally - life and death.

But what started as research for an in-house Women's History Month game led one Rochester native to a gold mine in the Clinic archives.  Even though early histories of Rochester feature almost as many photographs of horses as of women, the heretofore untold stories Virginia Wright-Peterson discovered shed new light on the unconventional environment - and people - that created the world-renowned medical center.
