Backyard Almanac: popcorn plants and watermelon radishes

Gardeners are leaping out of bed these early mornings, ready to get their gardens ready for seeds and transplants.

But if you're looking to expand your agricultural horizons, there are a host of things to plant that will tickle your fancy, including bright purple graffitti cauliflower, orange cheddar cauliflower, striped bumblebee tomatoes, and Mimosa pudica, a plant that will shrink from your touch.

But who could resist a radish that looks like watermelon, or a plant that looks - and smells - like popcorn?

Popcorn plant. The MN State Horticultural Society says " Popcorn plant is poisonous. So, if you have pets who nibble on plants or small children, this might be a plant to avoid."
