Green Visions: Remember when "don't litter" was the country's mantra?

People of a certain age remember when "don't litter," was at the forefront of everyone's consciousness.

47 years after Keep America Beautiful's famous public service announcement admonished "people start pollution; people can stop it," it doesn't seem like we've gotten the message.

With two Superior Coastal Cleanup events behind them and the last one scheduled for October 6, the Duluth Parks Department and a host of volunteers are finding ... litter on our beaches: fast food wrappers, cans and bottles and cigarette butts.

In one final end-of-year blow out, though, they're partnering with Canal Park Brewing for the final beach cleanup of the season.

For more information or to sign up, go to the City of Duluth's Parks and Recreation Department Volunteer page.  Click on the green "volunteer events," button, navigate to October 6, click on "Beach Clean-Up" and fill out the form. The first 100 volunteers get special thank-you gifts!
