Only one percent of Minnesota's remnant native prairie is left, by some estimates, when historically, it covered a third of the state.

Which means, according to botanist Scott Milburn, that whether you're interested in native plants or history, you've got a stake in protecting native species.

The Prairies and Grasslands of the Lower 48 symposium is this Saturday, March 23.

It is presented by the Minnesota Native Plant Society.
