UMD assistant football coach Marcus McLin wanted to see more Black men as leaders,  and represented that way on campus and in the community.

So last fall, he helped found the independent student organization Black Men Serving Excellence.

True, Duluth is a largely white community.

True, there aren't a lot of Black people in positions of power and influence here.

"But we're here now," says McLin. "What can we do while we're here?"

The peaceful protest on the UMD Campus will be this evening (Wednesday, September 17, beginning at 5pm in the parking lot outside Malosky Stadium. Masks are mandatory and social distancing will be enforced.
