Personality tests in the workplace: "My gut instinct is don't use them"

The memes about introverts and extroverts navigating quarantine and social distancing are funny - and sometimes, really resonate - but Dr. Mallory McCord warns that stereotyping people is a bad idea - and introverts - seriously - are frequently seen as not as valuable as their more extroverted counterparts.

McCord, an assistant professor at UMD, focuses her industrial/organizational psychology research on workplace mistreatment.  Writing in Personality and Individual Differences, ("A framework of negative responses to introversion at work" McCord & Joseph) says her research showed extroverts could be favored in hiring and promotion, and were treated better by colleagues, while introverts described feeling belittled, overlooked and excluded.
