Sugar on the Roof

This group first drew our attention with a performance on last year's Homegrown Music Festival trolley where the snappily-dressed trio played an old-time music set to an appreciative audience. Formed after a Tamarack Dance Association event, the group features Hibbing residents Megan Orwig Reynolds and Jefferson Reynolds as well as Duluth fiddler Clancy Ward. This year they got to play a stationary stage, with a Homegrown set at Amazing Grace on May 3; we got a preview when they joined us in the studio that afternoon.

Red Tail Ring at KUMD

This Michigan duo features Laurel Premo and Michael Beauchamp, whose close harmonies backed by spare acoustic instrumentation and blend of traditional tunes and original compositions create a distinctive folk sound. The pair, who play banjo, guitar, and fiddle, recently released their fourth studio album, Fall Away Blues. They joined us on September 27 and gave us a preview of their show at Amazing Grace Bakery in Duluth that same evening.

Listen to our sessions with this young Duluth musician, known for his unvarnished solo folk performances, his fiddle playing at traditional dances, his occasional collaborations with Charlie Parr, and his work with local band Yester. He'll release his first full-length solo album of American folk songs at Amazing Grace on Saturday, June 23. He joined us on  June 19, 2018 to talk about the album and share some tunes.

Husband-and-wife duo Kristoffer and Abby Jo Robin make up this Americana folk/grass group. Originally from Mankato, the pair traveled around the country as glass artists at Renaissance Fairs before making Duluth their home base for most of the year while still spending a few months at festivals in North Carolina and Arizona. We welcomed them back to the studio on December 15, 2017 to talk about their new album, Son of the Machine, and share some tunes.
