College students takeover KUMD's daytime airwaves in celebration of National College Radio Day!
Student DJs are hosting the KUMD College Radio Day takeover and spotlighting the music from student-run “The Basement” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Friday. National College Radio Day celebrates the efforts of students in curating unique, expressive, and meaningful content. “The Basement” playlist includes hip-hop, indie rock, punk, electronic and more.

Local, Nigerian-born artist, photographer, storyteller and community educator Daniel Oyinloye joined us on The Local to share his latest effort, Mixtape Project 3.0. A collection of hip-hop tracks by young men in a local youth residential program, The Mixtape Project 3.0 creators join Oyinloye and The Local host Marv to talk about their journeys.

After two EPs (later re-released on one album) the duo known as Illism, comprised of lyricist Envy and vocalist Fancy, came together again for their debut album Love and Loyalty. Combining elements of Soul and R & B with appearances of 80's Funk, Illism shows nothing but loyalty to their Minnesota roots.

Philadelphia native (now based in Boston) G. Love came to Duluth for a solo show on January 9, 2018 for the opening night of Duluth's newest venue, Sound. Teague Alexy opened the night, then G. Love played two sets to a full house; the first set had a bluesier feel, and he paid tribute to two of his musical idols, Bob Dylan and John Hammond.

Storytelling and music come together in "The Mixtape Project 2.0" from Minnesota artist, photographer, filmmaker and community organizer Daniel Oyinloye. Oyinloye has spent 2017 working with boys at a local youth and family services residential program, producing hip-hop, a creative avenue for introspection and personal growth.

In addition to spinning the best in local and regional tunes on The Local, This week DJ Marv in the Mix shares his conversation with Deploi, a Los Angeles-based hip-hop artist who has collaborated with St. Paul band Down Lo. Members of that group will back him up at his show at the Red Herring Lounge on Thursday, November 2.
