KUMD

Since our last visit with this Minnesota native, she made the difficult decision to close her Twin Cities yoga studio in order to follow the pull of making music her full-time job. Bue assembled a new band to record her forthcoming album, The World is Your Lover. Her website describes the collection, due to be released early next year, as "power pop, piano dream waves, and layers and layers of shimmery 90’s influenced guitars." A lifelong seeker, Bue recently traveled to India, which led to her adding a new instrument, the harmonium, to her repertoire.

Back at Clyde Iron Works, Superior Siren brought their moody elegance to the main stage, treating us to new material including a song called “Meet Cute” that lead Siren Laura Sellner described as being inspired by falling for someone at first sight. “It didn’t last,” she added. In the lobby, Clancy Ward and Kyle Ollah greeted incoming fans with a popup performance of duo fiddle tunes.

Duluth native Dustin Tessier spent time in his hometown music scene before moving to the Twin Cities in 2002. After playing in a band called Lazer Forever for several years, Tessier started his own project under the name Timbre Ghost, releasing an EP in 2016. He's just released his first full-length album, Life, Death, and Disintegration, featuring contributions from familiar names like Al Sparhawk of Low, Al Church, and Mary Bue.

Fresh from an artist's residency in New Mexico, Mary Bue has returned to Minnesota and released an EP, The Majesty of Beasts. Since it was recorded Bue went through a period of turmoil including a divorce and the breakup of her band, but eventually decided the project deserved to see the light of day. We'll find out more and here some tunes when she returns to our studios on Wednesday, June 7 at 2pm She performs the same evening for Petefest at Beaner's Central in Duluth.

Listen to our session with this Duluth indie-pop performer from March 5, 2015. She talks about her latest album, Holy Bones, and the dream about destroying pianos that led her to pick up the electric guitar and make a more rockin' record .
