Music Interviews

Nicholas David

Ten years ago when we did an in-studio session with Nicholas Morzinski (aka The Feelin'), we had no way of knowing that in a few short years he'd become a finalist on The Voice and become a household name as "Nicholas David." KUMD's Christine Dean had a chance to catch up with Nicholas when he was back in Duluth for a show on 11/7/19; they talked about the opportunities he's had since that 2012 The Voice appearance and about his new album.

The Lately's

This soulful local trio releases their new album, Waiting for You, on Friday, October 18 at The Rex Bar in Duluth. We got a preview when they joined us for an interview on October 16 during The Local.

KUMD's Adam Reinhardt sat down with international touring Duluth performer Gaelynn Lea at the Winnipeg Folk Festival on July 8th 2018. Lea, winner of the 2016 NPR Tiny Desk Concert, shared her experience at the Folk Fest and talked about the release of her "Lost in the Woods" music video and album "Learning How to Stay". Equipped with perhaps the world's tiniest microphone, KUMD felt at home in Canada chatting with one of our favorite local artists.

Daniel Oyinloye

Local, Nigerian-born artist, photographer, storyteller and community educator Daniel Oyinloye joined us on The Local to share his latest effort, Mixtape Project 3.0. A collection of hip-hop tracks by young men in a local youth residential program, The Mixtape Project 3.0 creators join Oyinloye and The Local host Marv to talk about their journeys.

Philadelphia native (now based in Boston) G. Love came to Duluth for a solo show on January 9, 2018 for the opening night of Duluth's newest venue, Sound. Teague Alexy opened the night, then G. Love played two sets to a full house; the first set had a bluesier feel, and he paid tribute to two of his musical idols, Bob Dylan and John Hammond.
