Pitchfork Music Festival 2019 - Review

Jul 26, 2019
Mark Idstrom

It was a mix of highs and lows for the 14th annual Pitchfork Music Festival held in Union Park this last weekend. Overall, this is the best Pitchfork that we’ve attended. There were so many special moments throughout the week. It’s a matter of seeing a handful of your favorite artists on the same day, hopping back and forth from the three stages, trying to make sense of it all. You’re diving into the mystic, and the best way of going about it for us was just playing it cool and going with the flow.

Christine Dean

A member of The Pines, Huckfelt recently released his first solo album, 'Stranger Angels'. It was the culmination of spending two isolated weeks as an Artist in Residence for the National Park Service on Isle Royale. He drew in friends ranging from Dave Simonett of Trampled by Turtles to Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso to record the album. Huckfelt performs as part of the Water is Life Festival happening on Sunday, July 21 at Bayfront Festival Park. He joined us in the studio to talk about the new album and share some tunes on Wednesday, July 17 at 2pm.

This Minneapolis soulful indie pop group was founded early last year by singer/songwriter Rachelle LaNae and producer Andrew Frederick, both multi-instrumentalists. They've released one infectious EP, The Mini Album. We found out more about this new-ish band when they joined us in the studio on Tuesday, July 23 at 2pm.

This local musician has evolved from a solo folk/punk performer to a plugged-in garage rocker with a backing rhythm section. A constant through this transformation is his sly sense of humor and quirky lyrics. McLean released his latest CD on Friday, June 28 at newish venue the Barbershop in Superior; we geot a preview when he joined us in the studio on Wednesday, June 26 at 2pm.
