The news that a pair of cats in New York came down with with COVID-19 and a pug in North Carolina did, too, has animal-lovers worried for the safety of our dogs and cats.

The bad news: if they're going to get it, chances are, they will get it from us.

The good news: they're probably not going to get it.

It's kind of  like a balance sheet, actually.

Move the numbers of stray, homeless or unwanted animals from that column to the "folks looking to adopt an animal" column. (With, if necessary, a quick stop at the spay/neuter clinic)

When you hear stories about house fires and other emergencies these days, there's usually a mention of the family pets that got out safely, too -- or didn't.

It hasn't always been that way.  Not that long ago, first responders were concerned strictly with the human lives.

Rune

Rune is a calico short haired cat who is one and a half years old. She came to us as a stray from Duluth and is now looking for her new loving home! Rune has lovely yellow eyes and soft fur. She has extra toes on her feet that look like thumbs, and will knead them happily when you talk to her. Start petting her, and she'll lean into your hand to make sure she's getting a thorough chin rub.
She will be spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated by the time of adoption.

What do young professionals want in a city?

Studies suggest they want good transportation - and will even consider giving up their cars if they can rely on public transit.

They want access to amenities so they can have fun when they're not working, and they want to be connected with the community and make it their own.

So far so good, right?  But who would have thought day camps for their dogs are one of the things they're looking for as they contemplate a move to Duluth?
