On the first day of his administration, President Joe Biden signed an executive order to have the United States rejoin the Paris climate agreement.

Jenna Yeakle is an Organizing Representative with the North Star Chapter of the Sierra Club in Duluth. She says she watched the signing, heaved a sign of relief, poured another cup of coffee and got back to work.

Yeakle is pleased with what she calls the new administration's emphasis on democracy, but points out that the onus is also on the people of this country to solve many of its ills.

Our guest this morning on the Caring and Sharing Holiday series is John Doberstein with the North Star chapter of the Sierra Club.

Leading up to this Saturday's Lake Superior Harvest Festival at Bayfront Festival Park, we continue our KUMD Sustainability Week series talking with Jessica Fritsch of the Sierra Club, who will be one of the organizations at the festival this weekend.  The Sierra Club is one of the oldest environmental preservation organizations in the U.S., formed in the 1890s by renowned preservationist John Muir.

UMD's MPIRG chapter and the North Star Chapter of the Sierra Club want to get you talking to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.

They don't think Minnesota Power's 25 year energy plan does enough to get rid of coal plants and replace them with clean, renewable energy, and they want people to make their opinions known before the PUC  rules on Minnesota Power's proposal.

The public comment period closes at the beginning of March.
